Interesting Problem

Well guys, the jeep was been running great for a few months now without any problems. I dont really think this is a big deal as of now, but it has just developed. When I start the jeep when its cold and I touch the throttle it bogs down for a quick second and then resumes on its way. It won't do it if I have started it within a couple hours. It does it whether I am in reverse, drive, or nuetral, park. I let it warm up for 10 mins this morning to see if that would stop it and it still did it. Its really not a big deal but I am curious as to what it could be. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Also, it NEVER bogs down like that at ANY OTHER TIME. Only when I start it up after its been sitting for a few hours, and it only does it once and it only drops a few hundred RPMS and then it goes right back up.

Does it oscillate back in forth in RPM?

It kinda sounds like it could be the TPS. Throttle position sensor. My XJ would do that, and would even stall out on the RPM down swing sometimes. Only after about 2 minutes would it even out and was fine after that.

Something to look into anyways.

It does not go back and forth. It only drops down for about a second if that. I replaced the TPS back in febuary. To me it seems like an electrical thing, maybe some sort of ecu glitch or something. I'm not sure what to make of it. Like i said, its not really a problem, but I was very curious none the less.

And its only the first couple minutes?

Could it be a spark plug wire that is worn down and arcing with the head?

Pull the Throttle body, dissassemble and clean it with the Spray Carb cleaner. This should be done once a year for optimal idle performance.

I could pull the throttle body apart and I might do that tomorrow. I was thinking maybe it has something to do with the IAC, but as I said it only does it once and it only does it when its cold. I'm figuring that maybe just cleaning out the IAC (if possible) would be a good idea. THe jeep idles great at around 600-700 (I think can't remember off the top of my head).

Very interesting problem, when you replaced the TPS was it with a new one or one that was pulled off of another car? Other wise I would be looking at the seconday side of the ignition system (plugs, wires, cap, rotor).

its not an electrical problem, it sounds like a fuel delivery problem. do what xjh-007 said and pull the throttle body off and clean it.
