Interesting Ebay lift problem ?

Well I cheaped out and went the Ebay route for my new kit,,and let me say be careful who you deal with.I purchased what was dscribed as a new 3" Rough counry complete lift w/shocks.What I recieved was a used superlift 4" lift w/six shocks, seven boots, and enough extra clamps for another lift.

All and all not a horrible thing, shocks ride ok,but now going with the bigger lift I wasn't expecting to replace everything else right now.So I have DW bad at 35mph you can't even hold the wheel.I'm going to put a TC drop on in the morning to see if that helps and replace my tires also.

So I also have a question, what is the differance between a shock and a steering dampner?can I use my extra shock as one?Oh well,TJ brake lines and Diso's here I come !

first off the second you got a used lift that wasnt what you paid for on ebay you should have sent it back, let alone put it on your jeep! the fact you got extra parts is creepy too, take it off and send it back!

Aboot the shock/steering damper thing:

A steering damper is a shock with equal rates both ways. Certain cheap shocks (rusty's, RC) are as such, and can be used as steering dampers.

You can try it if nothing else.

Umm, and yeah, what did you pay?

A little off topic, but are you saying that 50/50 shock absorbers are no good?

First thing to try is to get it aligned if you haven't already done so. If that doesn't help, let us know.

A TC drop will be a temp fix, but due to teh design of your TC the drop will be necessary for driveline vibes. The Driveline vibes are not what is causing the DW condition, just making it worse.

Exactly! If he advertised a NEW lift for an XJ with such and such a name and you got all used parts that werent even the name of the product he listed you should get your money back. Thats false advertising or something to that nature. Hopefully you didnt leave him positive feedback so you can have him reimburse your money and have him pay to ship the stuff back. The extra U-bolts are prolly cuz you have a 2 or 3inch lift block for the rear rite? There are different U-bolts depending on which axle you have in the rear ie: D35, D44, Chrysler 8.25

I am dealing with hime via ebay now,I only paid $110 for the lift.He actully spelled his listing wrong so there were only a few bids.

I wasn't aware that DW wasn't caused by the driveline angles,I had thought that was the prolem.Looks like I'll be checking the ball joints and tie rods before I go with the alignment (may aswell do it right)

50/50 is right. Equal rate both ways.

yeah...the 3" lift i want is over a grand. but it's got all top quality parts.

i'd leave negative feedback, talk to the reps at ebay about canceling his seller's account, talk with paypal (about getting my money back) and to the shipper's company (just to steal a few bucks from a multi-billion dollar industry that rapes unwarry people on "insurance" fees and "gas surcharges" when they make more than enough money and you're paying them to deliver crap)...it's just me though

well I will be putting a 4.5" kit togeather soon.

Yes going cheap by using S10 springs hybrid in the rear, but all the front parts and brackets/bolts ect will be new.

Even doing it that way I am actually only spending a little 300 or so.

I added it up and with new 15X8 rims it was only like 460 for everything...

Yeah I donot get major things like that through ebay... just too risky.

I've gotten no response from the seller, but paypal has taken action against him so I'll let that work out.On the flip side I have decided to go with the lift.I checked it out and the coils are new and correct, the leaf springs were also in great shape.2 of the shocks are perfect and the other 4 are to short, all other hardware is ok.Right now I'm only about $140 in with a few odds and ends so here we go-lol

I've got it installed and I've got about 4-5"s of lift.Death wobble at 35 mph will literally shake the wheel out of your hands.I went with a tc drop to help out and by visual insection the shaft (front) has only extended about 1/4".Tomorrow i will test drive it w/the tc drop and replace my tires (front are shot) and get it aligned. My diso's are on the way,but for the moment there are some extreme angles in the front.Pitman arm, ball joints, etc. What else will I need to be looking out for?
