Intake air temperature signal out of range

Ok, so I'm driving down the road and the check engine light comes on. I get home and run the check of trouble codes to see what codes come up. I get a 12 and a 23. 12 means the battery has recently been disconnected, which it has, and 23 gives me the title of this post, Intake air temperature signal out of range. What does this mean? Has a sensor gone bad on me?

Thanks for the help.

Well, if that were the case, then I think my tires might have melted.

My 93 is a much simpler ECU, but in other applications I would suggest cleaning the MAF meter. But I honestly don't even know if the XJ's have one.

I would start by checking the air filter. If that's clean, work your way to the TB and look for leaks. I really on't know if the MAP would trip that code, but it might be worth checking the vacuum connection on the MAP and the connector to the MAP sensor on the intake.

That's all I can think of right now.

The intake temp sensor is probably kaput. As a mod, some people relocate the sucker from the intake plenum to the airbox. This fools the computer into thinking the air is cooler, so it richens the mixture a tad for more power.

I'll get around to doing that one of these days...
