Did you get the right LED light. Gotta have one that is dual purpose. Most the cheaper ones are single. If there are only 2 leads coming off the light it is a single and won't work. If it has 3 or 4 wires it is probably dual purpose. Also, the cheaper ones need a resistor wired inline to make the flashers work.

Usually if you buy higher end lights this is all prewired in but if you get the cheap ones from the parts store or truck stop they are the single and won't work.

Welcome to the club. I tried LED's in my XJ, and for now have given up. First, the signals will flash very fast. Easy fix, get an electronic flasher. Second, the signals will light up with the brake lights. Never did figure out WHY that happens. Third, if you replace the front signals along with the rears, when you turn on the signals, and hit the brakes, the turn signals go out. These are all the problems I had, I assume you've had the same problems.

No one has been able to tell me WHAT to do to fix the problems, and I hope someone will figure it out. Cause I sure can't. For now the only LED's I'm using are in the brake lights.

Good luck!

I have the right LEDs, they are the multi purpose ones with brakes, blinkers and running lights and ground, but I can not figure out how to get them all to work right, it all hooks up ok and I swear they work, then i go and turn it on and they are all jacked up and nothing works right... like he said things are off

The current problem is....everything but the blinks work right

Front are working right, the blink on the right side, but the back if I turn on the blink right or left it turns them both on, like the hazard is on or something, but the hazard is not on so...... I am lost

Will start working on it in the morning again... have to get them to work, dont want to have to rewire the old junk in so I can have my rig drivable again but if i have to

HELP ME

I recall someone saying that if you wire them into a trailer wiring harness, and hook the lights into that you don't have any problems, don't even have to upgrade the blinker. Use the trailer wire converter boxes to convert combine the seperate turn / tail into one. I would assume however that you must have the trailer wiring box to begin with though??

Someone just mentioned getting a trailer wire harness, this is totally correct. You're trying to get the one light to do 2 separate functions at the same time (like trailer lights) so you can wire up one side, or buy 2 like I did and wire each side individually. That's kind of a waste, but it's what I ended up doing. Also, get the flasher.

This is what I had to do to get my 2 light (non-LED) system to work.

I seem to remember a thread not too long ago about LEDs, and one poster noted that wiring in a certain type of resistor was required for proper functioning. Seems the current required to run the bulbs is quite a bit more than the power required to run the LEDs, which causes problems of varied and random sorts.

You can get the resistors on ebay. I think one of the listings is stupid enough to put the Ohm rating right on the listing. You could just go to radio shack and buy them for a few pennies. I know they worked for motorcycle turn signals.

OR.........You guys could all do what i did when i replaced all my corners and brake lights with LEDs. You go down to your autozone store, buy a $10 flasher unit, remove the lower part of the dash on the driver side (remove 5 screws, and you will hear that old crappy flasher. Remove it, install the new one and whoah! look at that, problem fixed. flashers dont go spaztic, and the leds would work. Also for those who dont already know, the replacement wedge type bulbs are usually polarity sensitive. If they dont light up, try turning them 180 degrees and try again.

Have been searching and reading a lot about it, I will get to work here in a little bit and maybe just maybe I can get them to work for me now.

Thanks for the help

OH and is it normal to have a blinker on the driver side bulb, like a blinker that is attached to the bulb, I have never seen that before on any other cars
Can take pix if you dont understand what i mean

Thanks

Having personally installed lots of these things in the past on many different XJs.....this product is key to your success. I tried lots of different brands of trailer wiring harnesses and this was the only one that I could get to work properly.

It's Drawtite part number 18130 and it can be found at most places that install trailer hitches and some camper repair places:

If your blinkers are blinking too fast after you install that, then you can go get an electronic flasher. You do not need to get all complicated and start throwing resistors and what not into the system.

Amazing you dont have a write up for this.... wish you did

I will give it a shot, dont really have anything else I can try so

Just found this on FarmBoyDesigns.com, his install guide for his LEDs

11) Check for proper function of the lights. The incandescent light kit will require no modifications to the turn signal flasher circuit. If using the LED light kit your turn signals my not want to operate properly because of the low amperage draw of the LED light. If you have a problem than try swapping the turn signal flasher motor with the hazard flasher motor located under the dash in the fuse block. This should work on pre 94 XJ’s. If this doesn’t work than you will need an electronic flasher motor. 94 and newer XJ’s will require a resister wired in line to each turn signal circuit.

Farmboy uses all the lights, so there is no reason to covert from a 3 tail light system to a 2 tail light system. I can write you a set of instructions if you want. I used to do it all the time for the customers when I was still in the business.

Edit: That wiring harness is labeled very well and you just have to connect the wires that it tells you to on the front of the converter. It's VERY straight forward.

That would be nice man, thanks

I am just lost here

Have been reading write up after write up and this and thats and nothing I read gets me any closer to what I have to do

I have a single LED truck light, with the connections for Ground, tail, and turn and stop on the back of it.... and then the back up light- single light not LED

Hope that will help

Thanks again
