Ideas for reverse light?
I thought reverse lights were dumb the first time i saw them but when i finished my lift, my stock reverse lights blew i realized in the driveway
and on trails im blind at night... heres my idea: I have one BIG light that i know can illuminate, but i hate the under rear bumper look and it looks like it would get torn if i dropped off something On my back left side where the the plastic bumper corner is, im gonna take off and cut the bumper the length of around 7 inches except the bottom section, set the light with the bolt coming down and wallah!!! maybe put the plastic cover on and cut a hole around it any ideas and input please can be needed, as this may be a bad idea

i cut 2 2x4" holes in the rear bumper and mounted my "fog" lights in the bumper. i made some mud shields out of some scrap sheet i had laying around and bolted them to the same mounting holes i put the lights in. all i did for the shields was bend the sheets into a semi-l semi-c shape and cut a hole in the bottom...wired into a switch with speaker wire and vwa-la...nice 55w reverse lights.
nice....but i didnt 'primer' the bumper and now i have a little rust since the 6-monts of salt/road/mud debris i've left on there...no problem since i'm looking at a new bumper any way...and when i find out what i want i'll cut the same holes in the bumper but this time i'm wiring into a seperate relay and into a switch and then i'll herculiner the rear bumper. |

I had bought a 2 pack from that seller, but they sent me the wedge type instead of the 1156 base cherokees use, ended up installing them on my dad's yukon. Later, i got the ones for the cherokee from pep boys. not a HUGE improvement over stock, you may be dissapointed, but its 14 bucks for the two pack. I have hella 55 watt work lights on the rear of mine under the bumper. same ones tractors and bobcats have mounted. Rugged little things, bright, and nice beam pattern, i broke one down in el paso when i backed into a solid rock/earth berm... which is why i originally got 4... 2 spares. After looking at the housing, i considered cutting square holes in my rear bumper, and mounting them in there... only problem is the bumper isnt a flat surface.

I had similar issues, and just mounted a couple cheap wal-mart lights on the aft crossbar:

I'm also looking into cutting the rear bumper and mounting some tractor lights in there. As mentioned above though, it isn't flat. No biggie. I will also be getting some up on a roof rack (when I get it), but they will be more like "work" lights than reverse lights.

im going to put some aux lights in my hatch, pretty close to where the speaker goes. i gonna use the grommet fit semi stye, however, i assume you have a 97..so because you have a metal hatch im not sure if yours has space for the lights im talking about, or if you have hatch or soundbar speakers, or...whatever else. anyways, just food for thought.

I like the idea about the lights being mounted by the license plate, but I can't find any that are bright enough.

hella ff75 and hella ff50 foggers. they're bright as anything else on the market...and they're cheap.
or, the "baja" lights in a FOG pattern. basicly any small light in a fog pattern. |
