I think it may be time to trade the Jeep in....

Ok....Here is my problem....I am in CT now and 300 miles from home so I am stuck....When it is below freezing and night time some weird stuff goes on with my jeep(yes I let it warm up for up to 30 mins)....(maybe it's haunted) Back to the point, first there is a squeal from down below....I can't figure out where she is coming from....I put it in park or neutral and rev it up and nothing....Just when I put it in drive and hit the gas...The faster the louder.....So then the battery gauge just makes me even more angry when it says it has no battery(just got a new battery and had the whole electric system checked and it was all fine)...I know the battery is fine b/c everything works perfect(lights are a tad dull but I think that is the cheap lights on it)....Then my gauge shows that my engine is running hot soon after the battery life looks dead(I know this isn't right b/c I pop the hood and I can tell it's not running hot and I had straight coolant added and thermostat replaced)....Check gauges light comes on and I look like a retard riding down the highway with a loud squeal(can't have a nice jeep to show off when it squeals )....So when I turn the car off and then restart it she goes back to normal but the squeal is still there, but after some riding it goes right back to the check engine light in the same order.....Mechanic can't figure it out and neither can I....Maybe it's just time for a truck

Well I can take that Jeep off your hands, hehe. Well I'd assume the the squeel is from a loose serpentine belt. If its not loose, then mabey the pulley is bad on the water pump, which therefore would cause it to run hot. I'm not sure about the electrical, but maybe a wire is getting corroded and isnt visable, just enough to cause the system to send false signals.

Oh and BTW, running straight coolant isn't all that good. It's designed to be mixed 50/50. The system works best with water, but coolant/antifreeze is added to prevent freezing and rust.

I had the belt changed and also the whole pulley system replaced before I bought the Jeep....The coolant is run straight when it's freezing cold like it is now....There is only a tad bit of water but not 50/50 in this weather.....I get it flushed when he gets hot....I just can't comprehend it all....Just makes ya want to go to the dealer on a nice day and trade her in for that Dodge Ram with a Hemi I want so bad

Those Hemi's are nothing special. Its all just a marketing scheme that sounds cool so people buy it. I liked it at first too.

Anyway, well recheck the belt, because a new belt well stretch after a few weeks of opperation and can cause slipage. Does your heater fan constaly kick on and off. In the cold I never hear mine turn on, so maybe the thermostate is bad, I dunno though .

From what I gather in the original post, you took it to an independent shop. Skip that. Go straight to the Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler dealer if you haven't done so. They have special machines that will diagnose just about anything you could imagine.

A check engine light is nothing to play with. Get the codes pulled ASAP.

Yes I did take it to a independent shop....It is a good friend of mines shop....He used to work for a chevy dealer then went to Chrysler Dealer until he couldn't taking working for someone and opened his own shop....I would think he would know what it was....My check engine light had never came on until I got here in CT so he couldn't pull any codes...Until i get back she is sitting during the night.....

I had an intermittent squeal that took a good year and a half to get rid of. I was pretty sure it was going to be a u-joint in my front axle or on my driveshaft. After performing some front axle upgrade which includes new joints, bearings and hubs I still had my annoying squeal. I then needed a slightly shorter front driveshaft and ordered a replacement one through Tom Woods. Well wouldn't you know it 4 months later and I haven't heard that squeal once. One of OEM the u-joints must have been dry.

My symptoms were similar to yours, I wouldn't get anything when sitting still in park or nuetral. But would when moving and it did get louder with speed.

You could have your front driveshaft removed to see if it is the culprit.

Yea it could be the driveshaft I hear people say they have had that problem with theirs...I am for some reason leaning towards a water pump though....I mean the squeal is there and then the engine overheats(so it says)...Also I think my alternator is bad too b/c my lights are really dim....I want to get it fixed but I don't know any place to go up here...Def. no a dealer b/c I can't afford the labor charge...And plus when I turn my car off and then back on it goes back to normal but then does the samethings after like 10 mins....That's why I am confused....Gotta be a cricket in there messing around with my engine...
