check axle side track bar bolt for wallowed out hole or worn bushing, check shock mounts and bushings both ends, and all your tie rod ends. Have some one sit inside and start motor and turn steering wheel back and forth while you look at all the steering componets for movement or play, Tighten anything that looks lose
It could be many things !!Brizzle |

inspect the t-case shiflt linkage. A common issue is the small bearing that supports the t-case shaft that is supported in between the body and the transmission. I believe there is a TSB on this. Mine was hollowed out and was causing a very noticeable clunking in my floorboards.

yep, take a flash light and inspect the rubber in the mount they get torn or even sometimes have fallen out !! If they look good check bolts for tightness.

Check the sway bar bushings and end link bushings as well. It can be frustrating figuring it out. Look at the control arm bushings on both ends. The frame side mounts are close to your feet. Go over all yous supension bolts. I had clunking from loose control arm bolts on the axle (vibration from super swampers), track bar bolt hole ovaled out, bad track bar bushing on axle side, and loose track bar mount on frame.

My xj had a broken exhaust hanger, and the exhaust pipe was hitting the frame and hitch assembly. It sounded like the whole bottom of Jeep was coming out. I checked all the major stuff, and then finally checked the exhaust, and was dumbfounded when spot welding the hanger back on resolved the issue. So don't be like me and forget the little/simple things.

my 85 has a completely sheared motor mount on the driver side and it doesn't make a peep, so i doubt it's that... but i'd have to X2 on what everyone else said. let us know what happens...
