I have to slam the door to start my car.

Hello all,

About a week ago I got into my 92 XJ and tried to start it. I heard a click and then everything shut off like the battery terminal had been disconnected or something. I popped the hood and then opened my drivers door to check it out. As soon as I shut the door and opened it again the dome lights came on and everything powered up. I was able to start the car, but only if the door was open.
Last night the same thing happened, but when it all shut off I got out and slammed the drivers side door closed before opening it again. This worked, but I still had to keep the door open to start the car.

Both times were at the end of a day of heavy rain. I have already checked for corrosion on the battery terminals and they're clean.

Any thoughts on why this would be happening?

Check all the wires going through the door to see if the insulation has worn away and replace as necessary. Had a sort of similar problem in mine, one was stripped pretty good causing a short.

Had a very similar problem on my 95 xj. Pull the rubber boot in the door jamb and you will see a bunch of wires. If it was anything like mine I had 4 or 5 wires that were broke.
