I have a problem with the 4 wheel drive in my 2000 jeep cherokee

Yesterday the axle broke on the front right side. I replaced it today and now the four wheel drive wont engage. It was working fine before the axle broke. I dont understand is their something else I needed to do after replaceing the axle? please help!

How did you bust your axle?

2001 XJ 3.5" Rubicon Express Super Flex w/ 2" BB
AW-4
D30 w/ Aussie Locker
D44 open
33x12.50 Dunlop Mud Rovers
4.56:1 gears

do you have a vacuum disconnect fron axle? if so the vacuum line might have broken off.

It just broke when turnning around in the snow. when I backed up to turn around I cut the wheel to go right and it popped and when I took it out it was broke. and I have checked all the vacuum lines. It goes fine in 2wd .I am stuck tho! and really need my 4x4 I live in the mnts and have a foot of snow already and expecting more ice and snow tonight.lol this sucks

Have you removed the differential cover and inspected the gears? And which part of the axle broke the inner axle or the outer axle?

  1. '95 XJ country edition, 4" coils/3/4" spacers, HD leafs with extra main added in, Ironman adjustable control arms, rough country shackles, aussie locker, JK rubicon shocks, 35" mudder's, soft 8's, cobra cb
  2. Sold'99 WJ limited, 4.7L, 3" IRO lift. Bilstein shocks, JK rubicon wheels, 255/70/17's, carolina driveshaft, IRO adjustable control arms, IRO adjustable A-arm
  3. Sold '00 TJ, 4" lift, rusty's adjustable control arms, skyjacker shocks, rock krawler adj. trac-bar,rugged ridge SYE and RE driveshaft, soft 8's, 35" mud king xt's,XJ HP D30 w/aussie locker, 4:88 yukon gears, hella 500's, rock crusher diff covers
4. 04 Dodge ram 1500 quadcab, yes, it has a hemi.
5. '08 BMW X3, Mods in progress.

it doesnt have vacuum lines to the axles.
