I found an XJ
I looked and drove a 2001 XJ tonight. Is it pretty normal to have some driveline noise when 4x4 is engaged? This unit seems to be pretty all there. It's a 2001 4 door with 95k miles. $8300.00 is the lowest they will go. It has a class III hitch that looks like it has never been used. Also has a trans cooler in front of the ac condenser, i think this means it can tow a bit more than the 2000#s its originally rated for. They had an 00 2 door with 83k miles, but the ac compressor squealed like a pig and one of the speakers didnt work.....still waiting to hear on the WJ that we looked at. If the WJ dosn't work out i may get the XJ...damn i'm getting tired of looking at vehicles.....thx for listening to my rambling....lol

No, its an automatic. The book says 2000 with the 4.0 auto unless you have the HD cooling system and the trans cooler. How do you know if you have the HD cooloing system tho??

Most aftermarket units are fairly heavy duty, and I believe the tow package XJ's had the HD aux cooler on them.
Have the dealer pull the build sheet using the vin and it will tell you what you have.

driveline noise
What's your shift pattern?
If it's the Command Trac: 2HI 4HI N 4LO That's a Part Time Transfer Case. Used when on "slippery surface, or loose terrain". If you engage 4wd on the street it's gonna fock ****e up... or it might just need u-joints ![]()

did any XJ's come stock with tranny coolers? check the build sheet for sure...
if its not stock my point is the truck probably was used to tow, i mean why would anyone put a tranny cooler in it if they werent towing. plus the fact that there is a hitch as well. price seems kinda high too but i guess its a dealer. and FYI with the 00' XJ with the speaker issue, lots of XJ's will have speakers that just stop working. i have replaced both my front speakers cause one was dead. then a year later it stopped again so i jsut re-wired it.

i also noticed the oil pressure was about 15 at idle, and 40-5- at 45 mph...does this sound ok? More the idle pressure that i'm curious about...

Oil pressure sounds good. A little bit of a whine is normal from the t-case, if you have 4wd engaged. Just a heads up, there are issues with the fuel injectors and the weak head castings on the 00s and 01s.

yeah, i read about the casting #'s on the heads, but i couldn't find the # when i looked. Where exactly to look? I thought driver rear side of head, but all you can see is intake minifold.......and the noise isn't as much of a whine, rather a slight growl. Kinda just sounds like bearing are turning that usually dont..lol

Also, check to make sure that it still has it's distributor. Sometimes they fall off. If the distributor has fallen off, you definetly don't want to buy it.
