Hubs - are all d30 hubs created equally? Interchangeable?

Hey!

We're trying to get my son's XJ fully repaired before Saturday. The problem now seems to be wheel bearings.

We replaced the u-joints in both front axle shafts today. When I put it all back together, and it was still on the jack stands, I wiggled a tire and it wobbled in and out probably 1/2 inch or so. The other did the same. I know they are supposed to be solid and not move at all except to spin.

I'm guessing wheel bearings. Anyone disagree?

The problem is that they are not replacable, at least from what I've read on here they aren't easily replacable. So the option that makes the most sense is to replace the hub assembly.

We just got a 94 ZJ 4.0 as a parts vehicle. Would the hub assemblies on the parts ZJ's D30 work on my son's 96 XJ 4.0 D30????

Sure hope someone replies tonight, because I have to do something about it in the morning! I am hoping to save a couple hundred bucks and use the ZJ's hubs...is it possible?

Thanks,
Al

I can't comment as to interchangeability of hubs, but my experience would tell me to look at the ball joints too. Have someone look at the ball joints while you force the tire back and forth.

According to quadratecs site your ZJ hubs should work on a '90-'99 XJ. Part no. is 5241704. Before you take my word on this I recommend you call a parts store to verify.

Good luck
