How much lift before I HAVE to use SYE
I have a 4.5 inch lift ready to go on my cherokee, but, I also have some 1.5 inch spacers, and 1 inch blocks Id liekt o include, will I be pushing my luck with the driveshaft length? Also, if Its too much lift, can I just stretch my driveshaft? Found a local shop thatll do both the cherokee and my wrangler for 150 lengthened and balanced.

The length of the driveshaft isn't the issue, as much as the angle of the driveshaft. With the 97 model, you will be very lucky to not need the SYE with 4.5" of lift. You will at the least need a transfer case drop with the 4.5" lift, and deffinately need the SYE if you add the blocks and spacers.

I just put 7" of lift and 35's on my 95 cherokee 2 door. D35/AX15/231 with a 1"TC drop combo. i'm using my stock driveshaft with no vibes. I had it up to 70 today without any issues. I am working on swapping my rear axle now, so we'll see what I need after it's done. I'll put a SYE on it and get rid of the TC drop after I get that done. I have heard the newer models are more prone to vibes though...

The 5 speed, and d35 use a longer driveshaft, than the auto and 8.25. That means you can go higher without vibes. But some of the newer ones will have vibes with a budget boost.

My 97' with 4.5" of lift doesn't have a single vibration problem related to the driveshaft angle. I have a 1" t-case drop on my crossmember, but nothing other than that. I think it's kind of the luck of the draw. I'm planning on upping the lift sometime in the future and will be doing an SYE prior to doing that, but I'm fairly happy with it now.

Well I have just under 3" in the back and I get some vibes with some nasty noises when I let off the gas between 25 and 35mph. I am trying to put together some funds to buy a SYE and then a junkyard front driveshaft.
Auto/8.25 combo

I have 3" of lift, and have minor vibes. Saving for RE 4.5" lift, and SYE now.

I just installted the Rough Country 4.5 inch lift with 33x12.5 TSL Radials. The kit came with a tc drop and I have absolutely NO VIBES at all. You should be fine without the SYE. But the SYE and cv driveshaft combo would be a GREAT investment

Ok, thats what I wanted to know, I have 32's and the 4.5 kit, and just wanna drive it! If u fit 33's, then I wont bother putting the spacers on it. Thanks again

Yeah it rubbed on turns but trimmed the front corners of the flares and fenders. No rubbing now

i just put on a rustys 4.5 and got every bit of 6in and i was about to need a drop pitman arm and a sye but they sayed that after a "relitivly short time" it will break in and level out. im also using a makeshift tc drop kit.
its been a day so far and the vibrations are going away and the stearing is getting better so i guess it just takes a wile. if you plan on going over 4.5 you might just jeed one not sure though. |
