How does the TCM (Transmission Control Module) work?

I lost OD on my 88 Jeep Limited. Its something electrical, I just don't know how this system operates.

sounds like a solenoid, well, maybe

check out this page from the Tech FAQ sticky: http://members.fortunecity.com/90limited/

It isn't too difficult to take off the tranny oil pan, take off the filter, & get access to the solenoids & clean them (of course you'll need fresh fluid, a new filter, a new oil pan gasket). I can't say with any certainty that will fix your problem though.

There might be a way to test the solenoids, but, other than the article I linked to above, I don't know how. . . maybe someone else will chime in.

Oh, & there's more stuff on the transmission, further down in the Tech sticky:
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/tech-faq-links-tsbs-89273/

includes a link to a downloadable service manual for the AW4 auto tranny (somewhere on Pirate4x4.com)
