How do you make barpin eliminators?

I will be doing a buget boost soon and will be removing rear sway bar. I've seen how you can use the sway bar end links to make BPE's. How do I make some for the front? Ya, I know, JKS. Money is tight right now, hence the "budget" part of the boost. Any sugestions would be awesome. I did a search but found very little. Thanks

It would be pretty hard to conver the rear sway bar link mounts into front BPE's. The way the holes are set up of the rear links, it would rotate the shock eyelet 90* and completely change the cycle of the shock travel. IMO the better bet would be a set of these:

http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Suspension_Steering_Axles_and_Brakes/Shock_Stud_Extensions.htm

and glue a hockey puck inside each spring perch to limit travel on the downward cyle of the shock.

Thats good to know. I already bought tires, but those were in the budget for this summer. I got shocks too. Those weren't in the budget, but since I have 100,000 miles and mine are stock, I figured it wasn't a waste of money. www.rocklizardfabrications.com has write-up of using the rear sway bar links. I figured I could do something for the front too while I was at it.

Just go to Lowes and buy some 1.5"x1.5"x1/8" angle iron. Cut, drill, and grind to fit. Works for front and rear, and doesn't turn the bushings 90* like using the rear shock mounts does.

FYI: the mounting bolt spacing is different front to back, so BPE's for the front won't fit the rear, and vice-versa.

What size bolt did you use?

Did you use a sleeve in the bushing?

I think it was like a 1/2" or 9/16" DIA bolt. I used one of the steel sleeves that came with the shocks, and found a bolt that fit it.

Thanks guys. I'm on nights so I've been sleeping. Looking at JKS's, I was thinking something complicated. I have a habit of complicating things. That looks simple enough even I could do it!Thanks for the help.

Thanks for posting that! I just bought JKS BPE for the front (darnit!) but I'll use that idea for the rear - I need a tad more length out of the rear shocks...

advantage is not having to deal with those PITA barpins.

Lube them up and hammer them out. That's what I did when I made the same style BPE's. I didn't have the sleeves, so I just used a set og bolts that were the same diameter (a tad bigger actually) and drilled the holes for that.

Its not difficult to get them out at all, find a large socket (or piece of tubing) and place it on the opposite side of the bushing, use either a hammer, or a vice to press the barpin through the bushing.

I just took the grinder to one end, then sprayed them with PB Blaster and they slide right out.
