I wonder how the front shaft will hold up. It's 2" wide, while the rear shaft is 2.5" wide.. I'd like nothing more then to get rid of the t-case drop!

Another quick question.. What would be the minimum amount of lift needed for the font drive shaft to work? Would 3"s even be enough?

Guyz, I don't get this at all with front driveshaft used as rear.. When I look under my jeep, front ds looks more like toothpick compared to beefy rear ds.
And also about the size, front seems to be at least twice as short as rear.. I can't make any pics at the moment, since it is night, but will post some tomorrow.. It is '87 Xj with manual trans, np231, d30 and d35..

I think this question can fit in here...
I'm wonder about this one too... Is using a used front driveshaft with any SYE a good idea? I'm sure installing new U-joints is needed, but...
I wonder about "hack & taps" vs "big $ SYE's" and using a "front DS" vs a "custom DS". What can I say, I too would like to get by as cheap as possible without losing durability and reliability. After looking at the pictures with the link posted earlier, it helps to understand the setup... but I still wonder about the "durability and reliability". If I was building a "rock crawler", the choice would be clear. So I guess I'll keep on reading. Thanks, Cary

The front drive shaft should be around 26"s from yoke to yoke (at the bottom where the pinion nut is) Give or take depending on how much lift you have..

I've never heard of a Hack and Tap failing.. I've heard of people running 35's with no problems.. If they are crap, I hope I find out before buying one..

My personal opinion is this - I would rather spend the 500.00 now versus 250.00 on this special edition SYE/DS and then if (IF) it fails then have to spend the 500.00.
To each their own - I do not go off-road a ton and if I do I am not gonna see how many rocks I can climb or how deep of mud I can troush through. I am going to go out and have fun! Yup it is my DD, it is my Mall Crawler and it is my off-roader! ![]()
