Homemade Tube Doors done *PICS*

Ok so i finished up my tube doors yesterday. I haven't got pics yet of it painted, those will come soon but it turned out to be easier than i imagined.

I used 1.5" OD .065" WT 1020 DOM tubing, 2 scrap pieces of angle iron, and latches from home depot. They turned out really well i think, and i've just got to find the time to do the rears.

Tell me what you think of them.

nice, i plan to do this as soon as it warms up outside, though my design will be a little more complex, i really like the simplicity of yours. How much did the material run ya?

Sweet! It should look pretty cool with all four (I'm working on that with my Subaru).

I heart tube!

- Red '84 CJ-7 - I'll build it someday! I have the parts, but no shop and no time! :(
- Black '78 J-10 - rollin' on 37s and SOA with front/rear Detroits, high-steer, etc.
- Green '93 ZJ - Crusty old PARTS-GIVER TO THE CJ!

Looks great. I'd add a X brace if I were you though. It would add a little more strength and protection if something were to happen (roll over, protuding tree branch...etc).

Those pics don't have the latches installed yet but i used something identical to this: http://www.hooverfence.com/woodfence/gravitylatch.htm

And i thought about adding in a cross member i just didn't because of the time constraints and i couldn't find a hole saw. i'll probably go and add in a vertical piece in the middle just to brace it a little more.

so i assume that you're not planning on switching back and forth between factory doors and your tube doors?

Honestly, I'm not a fan. They just don't look like they fit very well. Like Bryson suggested though, you'll probably want to add some bracing/gusseting.

Actually i do switch between the factory and the tube doors quite regularly. the fit is great, the only play is due to the latch and i'm working on it. but they're definitely stonger than you'd imagine

I like them, minus the fence latch. I see that flying open when hitting big bumps when wheeling, or even a large pothole
