Homebrew Rock Rails

So I started making my rock rails today. I used these plans from a thread I found on here.

Where it says 1/2" angle, use 3/4". 1/2" is too small. I also added a 3rd leg to the center, cut the ends of the rails at 45* angles to make them slide over rocks easier, and boxed the ends of the tubing in. Excuse the pics, as I forgot my digital and had to use my phone.

The welder:

Legs:

Test fit:

Painted and prepped:

I started on the second one, got the ends boxed in and ground down, and tacked the feet onto the legs, but then the tip on the welder got all boogered up so I called it a night. I'll finish the other and get them mounted soon, then of course, more pics.

Yes, I reverse engineered a picture. That's actually the whole reason I took pictures of the whole process. I forgot to get a picture of it, but on the main tube I even wrote "Drivers" in Sharpie.

It seems that the body widens as it goes back, or the subframe rails narrow. I split the difference between the two and made my center leg 10.875" and it fit just fine.

I imagine it would work on either, but mine is a 4dr and it worked fine.

Not worth it for me to sell them. I've got about $80 total invested in these, between steel, hardware, primer, paint, and thinner. Probably about 6 hours total. My time is worth more to me than I would make by selling them. That's why I posted the plans here and progress pics, to maybe help people along who want to save some money and make their own.

it might just be easier for you just to buy them from some fab company then reselling them as your own. you already have the pics showing how you make them. just a thought.....

They look great! For mounting, are you using self tappers, or just bolting through the frame?

Self tappers through the subframe for now. We'll see how that works out. If it doesn't seem to sturdy I'll drill through, and put a piece of flat steel on the backside of the subframe rail and bolt through. I have 4 self tappers in each foot of the legs, and 8 bolts along the pinch seam. I'm thinking it should be pretty sturdy.
