I know some people build them out of PVC pipe. Found this link using the search feature- http://www.terrainstompers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=97

Do a search here and on NAXJA--there are at least a dozen threads (and I've yet to see a home-made snorkel that doesn't look like ***, but it's your Jeep).

Yeah thats the problem they don't look so good, thats why I was hoping someone would have some magical plans to make the best offroad snorkel ever.

I did mine for about $10 using the stock airbox, SJ flanges, 4cyl XJ square to round adapters, and a 3" round expanable air intake tube.

my buddy is in the process of making one for his tj. He's using 3'' exhaust tubing with mandrel bends. all the piping is powder coated black and enters the jeep in the side of the cowl. it looks ten times better than a Safari snorkel IMO. i'll try and get some pictures from him

i think it would be cool to weld one up out of really thin round steel (or aluminum depending on welder) tubing and make a nice looking fiberglass scoop to put on top of it.
nobody has done that yet and i think it would look nice

Any one have any thoughts on this as a cap for the home-made snorkel? It's only $13.00 made of galvanized steel, fits 3" pipe, 6 3/4" across the top.

Thank looks pretty sweet, I'm going to look into it for the snorkle I'm building, but I wonder if the air flow will be enough because the vents are facing down. But I don't know, it looks like it would work.

here is my friend's cherokee, i think he used 2" pipe and under the hood he connected corrugated RV sewer pipe from walmart, to the air box and out to the fender where he made the pvc come out and up, when it get's painted it will look pretty darn good, the pic doesnt do it that much justice.
Also he can currently take it apart and re route it vertical out of the fender and it lools like a periscope ![]()
