home made "roof rack" - great for everything!
I have no welding skills and was not about to pay $250-$400 for a steel roof rack. The main purpose for the roof rack I built below was for a full drum set (we were using it as a "stage") as I have a power inverter and a 400 watt keyboard amp and me and 2 friends like to go to the park sometimes and jam out w/ drums, keyboard, and guitar. Anyway, this "stage" I built has so many more uses than I originally intended including: platform for watching drive in movies, platform for watching fireworks, "truck bed" for hauling crap you normally couldn't like logs, wheel/tire as shown below. Will also hold up to 3 bikes lying down w/ red straps holding them down. Great for holding camping equipment too. Cost me about $35 to make and simply uses a "grid" system over and under the stock roof racks to lock it into place. Looks ghetto, but works great and will hold me over til my $12k project starting in the spring.

The tint looks good. I'm not much for roof racks though :P

And I thought my leaf springs were sagging.
You might want to check that out. |

Yeah those are not saggy leafs; he is on a mound of dirt or something... It would be cool if you could either cover the wood with black (or chrome) diamond plate... or stain it. You could also drill some holes out in the front and put off-road lights on it... I think it would be better for aero dynamics if the front were slanted... but that’s just me, we drive bricks anyways I don’t think it will make a HUGE difference so it’s up to you.

yeh, my right front tire is on a big mound of dirt. I am probably going to paint it flat black, but being removed in the spring anyway when my 5.5" TNT lift and 35" Baja MTZ's go on. I will fit in the garage by 4" and that's NOT including the 6 fog lights that will be on top. I am making a motorized rack for my fog lights and 4' cb antenna's so at the flick of a switch they can be lowered flat against the roof and fit in the parking garage at work. this thing will have overcome such a transformation by the time I am done and the before and afters will be insane.

yes, one guy sat up there with a drum set and it is very stable. it is supported towards the edges of the roof, not the center. hell. I had a full size sleigh last winter (pic below) which was 10x the weight and two full size people w/out a problem (I get bored and like to make people laugh so I do stupid projects like this)
