Just wondering if anyone has gotten there hood vented by DPGoffoad. It's probably not pratcital for me, but for you folks in the hot states like out in the southwest, it may be a good idea.

Here is a link

that seems like an awful lot of $$$ for them to louver your current hood. i would say just get a cowl induction hood or one with a mild scoop and it would do the same thing for you. definitely a personal choice though!

speaking of hood vents... I was wondering about those of you who have done this mod, what effect does the winter whether have on the truck. Does the heater work as well? Does water ever get inside the engine bay and freeze causing who knows what problems? (I know ericsxj made drip pans) For those who havent ... are they neccesary? are you experiencing problems?

Anybody know where you can find a cowl hood for a 97+ XJ? Fiber or steel?

I have Grand Prix GTP hood vents on my XJ without the drip pans.

Gone about a year with them through rain, sleet and snow, with no problems. I did place them pretty well to allow heat out during the summer and wet weather will drip past anything electrical that may be a worry, but quite a bit of water still can come up from the bottom if it is raining hard enough and you hit a big puddle without causing problems. The biggest worry is the alternator and water getting in the distributor, but the alternator is near the front away from the vents and I sealed my distributor cap with RTV sealant. My XJ stays plenty warm in the winter with the vents.
Dirk had his hood louvers done by a local guy and he never had problems with weather in his engine compartment. The louver job he had done is pretty extreme, but it worked very well with relieving heat from the engine compartment.

Reflexxion makes a steel cowl hood for the XJ.

This is my first full winter with my hood vents and I've had zero problems so far!

MSHarnett, you gonna install those LeBaron vents?

Not yet, but I will. First I was gonna wait to do my Durabak paint job, now I think I'm not going to do the hole putside, just the lower portion on the sides. Well anyway, I'm just gonna wait till the spring to put them on, no need in the winter for them, . Before I had my water pump replaced my engine warmed up nice and quick, now it takes forever and now I'm thinking about getting a cold weather grill to block some air from cooling the engine. I'll ask about that in another thread.

I like these too. He's got the Rock-It airtube so the hood scoop is right over the intake, plus the vents to cool the engine. It looks pretty good.

I know Eric made drip pans ... which is no hassle after they are installed .... but you can always go the lazy way like I did...

I have a big hole in my hood where I placed my FIPK2 and a throttle body spacer (to prove I could). No problems at all except alot of weird looks from my friends at my willingness to cut a hole in a perfectly good vehicle........that's why I like you guys so much.

Just put a hood scoop over it like in my last post. That'll cover the hole and look good at the same time.

I am waiting for the new snorkels from Australia then I will get a cowl hood. Dirk at DPG said they are testing the latest revision of the snorkels and may rollout within the next 90 days. He says he will likely get 50 units initially. My palms are moist in anticipation.
