High pitch whistle noise coming from fuel pump

I just replaced the fuel pump and the filters in the tank. Now when I start the Jeep I can hear a high pitch whistle noise coming from the tank while it's running. A couple friends I've talked to seem to think it's normal, but I've never noticed it before. Let me know if anybody else hears this dog whistle coming from their tank. Thanks.....

BTW, the Jeep doesn't die out anymore on left hand turns when low on gas. I fixed the sumbiatch!

I'll do a write up later.......... I just hope the new fuel pump I bought is ok....

Late

Nobody on the board with a 97+ has this high pitch noise coming from the tank?

That must mean I bought a faulty fuel pump...

Yup,, every fuel pump I have ever known to whistle was just bad, the bearings in the motor or something are shot.

Crap, maybe I'll go drop the tank again and replace the new pump with the old one and just use the new filters...

I think the filters were the only problem from the get go anyway, but I had to by the whole kit (pump and all) to get the stupid filters...

thanks.........

Update: I dropped the tank once again....

I believe the pump to be good. The problem I think I'm having is seating
the pump to correctly pick up the fuel. I took it out and tested it (with fuel)
and the whistle sound goes away. I also tested the old pump, with fuel it
doesn't whistle, without fuel it whistles as well.

Is there something I'm missing>>??

Now, I tested the new fuel pump inside the tank. It made no whistle sound. I mounted the tank to the Jeep and hooked everything up. BAM fecking whistle comes back.

Dang man.. I can only hope that you were just dreaming about installing the old pump, testing it while outta the jeep, then you came back to reality and tested it and it whistles ..

^^^^^^^^ yeah, on the plus side it's running perfect and doesn't die anymore on left hand turns like it use to. Who knows maybe after a couple tank fulls it might go away.. I'm done dropping the tank, and getting high on gas fumes.. Time for a beer....

Yeah a while back there were tons of threads stating that the newer XJ's die on left hand turns when they had a 1/4 tank or less. Everybody said keep more then a 1/4 tank of gas in it and problem solved. The problem is in the filters. There are 2 in the tank, problem is Jeep doesn't sell the filters by themselves. I found a kit on Ebay that has them for $89.00 including a new Mopar pump. It's better then spending $350.00 at the dealer for a new unit. (filters, pump, sending unit, float)

I took plenty of pics and plan on doing a write up..... not today it's beer:30.....
