High and low beam headlight question
I don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but I discovered the other day that the low beams turn off when you turn on the high beams. If you turn on the highs and then pull back the selector again (as though to turn them off), but hold it there, there is a lot more light on the road because both the highs and lows are on. I know that some GM trucks have some aftermarket device to plug in somewhere in the circuit that makes the lows stay on when the highs are, but I have been unable to locate such a thing for an XJ. Have you guys heard of anything like this?

You can easily rig the wires up so the hi and lo stay on. But I would be a little nervous about heat. I've never done it myself, but it may wanna be something you'd want to think about. The lights are designed to work sepratly and may not be able to handle both filaments at one time. Not sure if the GMs had two diffrent bulbs, but just a heads up. I do remember this being dicussed here before, but I can't recall if anyone actually did it.

i was wondering about that, but i really like the light pattern thrown down by both sets when they are on, it does a very good job of lighting everything up.

the GM's have either two seperate sealed beams, or two bulbs in seperate parts of the housings.
My dad's yukon has the relay kit that allowed lows to stay on with highs and its nice. I wouldnt reccommend it with the XJ's though. These sealed beam lights arent designed to have both filiments on at the same time. In fact, the wig-wag circut we use on the emergency vehicles tends to decrease the life of the headlights... and thats with each high beam being on 50% of the time. When i get my silverstars, i'm going to use the cutoff feature on the wigwags, preventing it from turning on if the headlights are on.
