High Idle when weather is nice.

I forgot about this problem because it went away when winter came but now that it's getting warmer it's starting to come back. It's directly related to the outside temperature.

Normally whenever I start my jeep it idles high for a few seconds then settles down to a comfortable level.

However when it's a warm day out it is inevitable that it will remain at a high RPM after starting it and never "settle down" as I would normally expect.

I can tell even before I start it whether or not it will do it by whether it's a hot or cool day... very predictable.

I have a standard tranny and it idles higher than I would normally want it when I take off from a stop. Then when I pull into a parking space and am going slow I push in the clutch and brake to stop and the motor rev's up since it's no longer under a load.

Thanks.

It's just your Jeep's way of saying it likes the nice weather.

Just kidding......but I am having the exact opposite problem. My idles high when its cold.

Is there a check engine Light on? Do you ever notice black smoke coming from the tail pipe? Is it on the 90 or the 88 ?
could be an idle sensor?

No check engine light... but then again I've never seen that one so maybe it doesn't work. No black smoke. It's the 1990. It did it again today, not looking forward to a whole summer of it.

Damn, my 90 does the same thing. It seems when the engine bay warms up (so warmer intake temps and such) mine idles higher. When it is cold, it nearly stalls!

There must be some sort of intake air temp sensor that is wigging out on us. Do let us know what you find, I will do the same.

mine does the same, except that it does it when the engine is hot and I turned it off and it sits for at least 5 minutes and I restart it and the idle is at 3000rpm. I have replaced the TPS and cleaned the idle controller and cleaned the throttle body. I don't know what else it can be, but it will ruin my tranny soon cause I have to put it in gear at that high rpm. anyone have a solution????????
