High idle problems

My '90 cherokee is having some idling troubles. Its not an all the time problem but about 50% of the time it wants to idle high for no apparent reason and only stops if i cut it off and back on and that only fixes it sometimes. And even then it most likely will start to idle high again later and ill realize when i try to stop it makes it hard because its still trying to accelerate. Can anybody tell me what it might be???

Clean out your throttle body and clean your idle control sensor, it's in the back of the throttle body. Throttle body cleaner recommended, not break cleaner. Good luck

Your TPS is probably dying on you.

I would first do a ground refreshing, post 1.
Sensor ground test, post 5.
TPS test, post 8.

All in the link below.

A throttle body and IAC cleaning is NEVER a bad idea as has been suggested already.

replace the cps and also check for vacuum/intake leaks. Its more unlikely since you are only getting it to do it half the time, but anything is possible.

CPS WILL NOT cause high idle issues. That would be an unnecessary expense and time waster.

As stated, check your TPS when its idling high, and clean your IAC (Idle Air Control valve)and be sure to clean the throttle body as well.
