Helpful info for spicer 211229x junkyard search

For anybody like me pulling junkyard parts to do a $110 sye/driveshaft combo I found some useful info in looking for spicer part 211229x (part between hack n tap and xj front diveshaft).

As posted by some helpful people before me, the part can be found on 80-82 ford thunderbirds, 82-87 lincoln continentals, 84-88 lincoln mark vii's, and 80-82 merc cougars. I couldn't determine exact years in the junkyard so I decoded the vin#s and thought I'd share. Position 10 (10th character in vin) on FoMoCo vehicles is the year, the position 10 letters (years you'd want) are as follows:

Ford Thunderbird: A, B, C
Lincoln Continental: C, D, E, F, G, H
Lincoln Mark VII: E, F, G, H, J
Mercury Cougar: A, B, C

*The same part is also apparently on 79-80 Lincoln Versailles

lol I know, your post was the one that initially helped me (thanks), it's just when I got to the junkyard I couldn't determine exact years, so I researched and wanted to help anyone doing the same thing. Read first post later

Just another update, the stuff before was for spicer 211229x, but I cross referenced it with Rockford Driveline and Rockford series 1310 part# 404A is the same thing and rockford has this list of vehicles that use the part:

1980-1982 Ford Thunderbird
1982-1983 Lincoln Continental
1988-1992 Lincoln
1980-1982 Mercury Cougar XR-7
1991-1993 Oldsmobile Bravada (should be a little more common than the others)

This is for any junkyard dogs like me hopefully it'll help people because I could never find everything I was looking for.

BTW I have no idea why the years don't match up, this info straight from Rockford should be a little more trustworthy than forum posts where I found the years in my original post

I got two from some type of 88-90 lincoln, and they fit the majority of the way for the U-joint, (not sung just a hair out) and the bolts line up for the H'n'T but the hole from the sye, doesnt fit the spicer part. I am about to kill someone, the part that i ordered, didnt come in on time, NAPA doesnt have the part in stock, and i cant seem to find the right car at the local pull-a-part.

HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

Yea it's pretty hard to get the one you want, most pick and pulls cycle their cars in and out, you usually won't find stuff from the late 80's anymore, I tried all my local ones and gave up and ended up buying the part.

So the ujoint caps are sticking a hair out so the snap rings wont fit in? As for the shaft hole, I dunno, like I said I ended up buying it, you could get it machined out, but it sounds like too much trouble.

If you keep the rear output yoke, you can still cut down the output shaft, then the yoke and use a front drive shaft. This eliminates the RE piece and the 211229x part. Then it'll only be the cost of a used drive shaft (which is ~$50 around here).

Found this out today. Got a part off an 82 Cont, with the 10th letter being a "C" in the Vin and found that it has a center hole not big enough to fit over the RE adapter.
