HELP!! the XJ might be dead

I was offroading with a friend and we come across this big mud hole that we have to cross to compleate the trail. He goes through first and comes out with quite a bit of struggle. I go next. The muddy water goes about to the fenders and I stop. Water starts coming in, and before I know it, its full of mud. Great. He pulls me out and we pop the hood. We take off the intake cover and the bottom of the box has a little water in it, the filter is pretty wet, and there is a little water in the intake pipe. We feel the throttle body and it seems mostly dry, so hopefully too much water didnt get in. We go to start it and get ::click::., try again ::click::. We hook up the jumper cabels and still get ::click::. Is it just the alternator? Do I just need to dry it out, or am I screwed? HELP!!

So the engine won't turn over even with jumper cables on it? Make sure to PULL THE PLUGS and turn the engine over to force out any water in the cylinders.

Check and make sure the alt isn't caked with mud.

Let the starter dry out a little and try it then.

ck the tire pressure in the left rear tire. It is possable that the conuxer valve is stuck. if not it might be the warp core so jettesion it before the core explodes

write a check to the "I drive jeeps offroad club" and get er done

been there

Same thing happened to me. I let it sit for about an hour and a half and it started up. My lights still worked but just didnt' have enough "juice" to turn over. I ended up having to replace the TPS but she runs fine now.

Good luck.

Wont start? There is water in your distributor. Happened to me a few times. Just pull the cap off, clean it out, shoot some WD-40 in it, wait a few minutes, and you are good to go.
