Help me figure out this noise (video)

ok this has been driving me crazy for a while. few months ago this whining noise started. i suspected the ps pump was going out so i removed the belt and drove it down the block and the noise was gone. so i replaced the pump. the noise was gone for about a month or so, but then started coming back. gradually getting louder. i removed the belt again and drove it (i suspected either tensioner pulley or ps again) but this time the noise didnt go away. which leave me to assume its not coming from anything ran by the belt.

the noise is only accelerating in first gear (auto) and goes way as soon as it switches to second. doesn't make noise at idle, park, neutral or drive or decelerating in first. ive checked the flex plate. as well as a new ps pump, its has a new water pump and alt. recently replaced the diff fluid.

other than this noise it has no problems, runs like new.

1998 2wd ~200k miles

ill check tomorrow and make sure its not coming from anything ran by the belt.

the vid is not of my jeep, but its the same noise. i would have done a video but i have no camera.

IMO something to do with the accesory belt, has to be. The fact that you removed it and it didn't do it, to me makes it a dead ringer. So that leaves one of your pullies, bad bearing in it etc.

ok i pulled the belt again to be sure. with the belt off the noise is quieter but still there. anybody think it could be the fan clutch? thats really the only think i can think of. because the ps and water pump are new. the fan clutch is the only thing i can think of that can whine like that. i cant remember if the fan is suppose to turn while the motors off?

i dont suspected the trans. it sounds like its coming from the engine bay, but im not 100% because it only makes noise while driving.

also, is there a technique or something i could use to properly tighten my belt, i think ive been over tightening it?

i checked the trans fluid, looks good. theres also a leak coming from the drive shaft, looks to be transmission fluid. could this have something to do with the noise?

I agree with the trans idea. It sounded like the noise you get in reverse, which are the gears making the noise.
You said the trans fluid looked good? When was it changed last? Correct fluid used? Sometimes just changing the fluid can eliminate noises.

I think the belt correlation is a coincidence. Especially since you said the noise goes away in all other gears.

yep sounds the same in reverse. only instead of it making noise when decelerating, like in reverse, it does it when accelerating up till it switches to 2nd.

so hopefully if i flush my trans it'll go away? sould i be looking into getting a new trans? cuz a guy on CL has a 4x4 auto trans with less that 100k for $200, and id go ahead and do a 4x4 swap.

or is this noise something i shouldnt be too worried about?

seeing as i have a leak coming from the DS, i hope its just a pinion bearing causing it, but idk.

here a vid of a guys libby with bad pinion bearing, sound like mine but instead of only happining in first, like mine, his is constant.
