Help! "Check Engine" light is on due to T-Stat install (read story)!!

Alright, about a week ago I installed the Jet Chip Stage II, which required me to install a High-Temperature Thermostat. Well, I went to Napa to obtain one, but my friend (who installed my Thermostat) forgot to install the gasket seal. The coolant leaked and it was a mess... not to mention that my power steering was kinda sketchy. So I added more power steering fluid as well as some more coolant and I thought everything would be fine... but my "check engine" light came on. My friend did not disconnect the battery before installing the thermostat, would that trigger the "check engine" light? I am going to try to disconnect the negative battery terminal and reconnect it to reset the PCM. What went wrong? What else should I do if that doesnt work? Thanks guys!!

Unfortunately I don't know anything about these Jet Chips other than what I've heard (and that is they are pretty useless) but here's a question. In your sig now I notice you have "Jet Chip Stage II, Jet 180° Degree Thermostat". So how is a 180* T-stat considered high-temp? Stock is 195* and it is known that the I-6 operates well at a high temperature (200 - 210*) and that it can be bad for the engine if it is constantly running at a temperature that is too low. I know a lot of people have put in a 180* t-stat, but given my climate where believe it or not it actually gets quite cold here in the winter, I wouldn't use it. If it has trouble reaching "normal operating temperature" I remember reading this can cause the check engine light to come on. Unless this Jet Chip is supposed to tell the computer this is now OK????

About the check engine light on now, I would first fix the leaking T-stat with the proper gasket/RTV. When everything is working properly the check engine ligh might disappear after X# of engine starts. If not you'll have to have the error code read with a scanner to see whats wrong. And BTW, you cannot pull the codes on our 2000's using the ignition "on-off" trick.
