hella 500s on stock fog harness?

i want to put a couple of hella 500s on my bumper and run them off the stock fog light harness and switch.

my thoughts are to cut the current plugs and put a new 2wire connector on them to keep the plug and play setup.

can the harness and relays and wiring handle the 55w hellas?

Yes it can , I have the same lights wired to the exsisting wiring harness, I wouldn't go any bigger wattage wise though.

Use the stock wire harness to activate a relay or relays. Use the relay to provide battery voltage to the fog lamps.

Cherokee wire harnesses were barely able to provide enough power and avoid switch meltdown when new.

I've got the Hella 500's on my XJ and my GF's TJ both hooked up to the factory wiring and it has worked fine for a number of years now. The Hella 500's are 55 watts just like the factory fogs are so your good there but as was already said if you change out the bulbs to something higher it will burn out the switch and possible the wiring too.

yeah. H3 is just the type of bulb. and silverstar is a brand that puts out a brighter, more white light than the stock hellas. same watts and they just plug in. got them at autozone

Completely stock, and keeping it that way...

I am using the stock switch for a pair of 100 watt kc's. I used the harness that came with the kit but kept the stock switch for the clean look.

I put 55w driving lights in the factory fog location. Supposedly it's illegal to use them on the road here but I sometimes use them on dark, empty stretches of highway I'm going to rewire the setup so that I can turn them on in conjunction with the high-beams if desired. The stock circuit turns off the fog lamps if you click the high beams on.

I guess what I'm asking is, will fog lights give me a fuller brightness in my setup. I have 4 driving lights on the roofrack. should I add 2 more pencil beam driving lights or put 2 fog pattern lights to fill in some of the closer range areas the pencil beams don't direct at?

I will definitely be bypassing the stock harness pretty soon so I can operate the lights at my desire.

True fog lights are angled downward to prevent blinding yourself in rain or fog conditions, often have a lesser wattage (35 vs 55 w), and are usually yellow in color. So yes, I think driving lights would be noticeably brighter.

that makes sense. however, i just looked at the hella website. they do have the 500s in a driving pattern and a fog pattern, both at 55w.
