heater core replacement

Hi guys,

I'm new to this site and my Jeep. I've been trying to search for an answer to my problem but the search dosent seem to be functioning. I have an 89 4 ltr 4x4 w/ AC and a heater core that needs to be taken out and replaced. I'm not the most mechanically inclined guy, and I have limited time/space, so I am wondering, is this something I should bother tackling on my own, and will I lose my AC? Its not a huge concern as I rarely use it, just wondering. I would like heat though

Other than that it runs like a champ. I'm loving the Jeep, and cant believe it took so long to get into one. Its stock for now, aside from the tires, but that comes next. Hopefully someone has some tips. Thanks!

Great site btw, tons of info!

replacing the heater core is a real PITA. it's a 2-3 hour job, if you know what you are doing.
when mine when out i just cut the txv valve off the A/C evap and shoved the heater hoses over it. works great. of course i use the A/C compressor as a air pump for OBA. so if you like A/C, this is a bad idea.

FSM says like 7-8 hours.

You have to rip your entire dash out to get to it, thus why I still have no heat...

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I'll be taking it to a shop, it gets a little too chilly here in the winter for no heat
