When I fixed mine last year, there is NO circuit board for the heated part of the seats under the seat. Check for power at the plug and continuity in the wiring.

After reading all this I'm a bit confused. The heated seats in my '99 Cherokee have stopped working. I'm getting the green LEDs mentioned here. I am getting a solid orange when I turn them on. I checked fuse 18 and it's OK. My powered seats work so that leads me to believe that Fuse 29 is good, correct? So is it the heated seat relay or the seat heat interface module?

I have an 01 Cherokee LTD. Flashing Hi switch. Maybe I should have just fixed the element but I decided to go with universal ceramic element. I just don't know how to wire in the 2 element wires to the 4 wire prong the original 2 elements went to.

I just used the tips in this thread to fix my 01 Cherokee/XJ Limited. The drivers side heater was not working and the HI portion of the switch was blinking which indicated the break in the wiring. Sure enough, there was the burn spot just under the front (leg portion) of the seat cover. I cut the little blue wire where it was burned and stripped the end of it and then re-soldered it back onto the larger brown feeder wire which fixed the seat heater, hooray!
While doing this I found out some info on this particular seat heater design. 1. there are 3 zones to this seat heater. One on your back on the vertical part of the seat, one on your bum area and one on your legs reaching out to the front edge of the seat. 2. These zoned elements are actually just a single string/loop of the little blue wire which must be resistive wire that just heats up when current goes through them. 3. If you just connect together the large brown wires at one of the zones (I only did this on the front leg zone which was faulty), this will effectively bypass that zone and allow the other two zones to work. (Handy if you are testing to see if it is just one zone that is defective) - not sure if this could be a permanent fix or if it is safe, but it did make my bum and back zones work before I finally fixed the leg zone. |

I'm about to tackle this problem in my '00 LTD XJ this weekend (hopefully). I'm getting the flashing hi LED on the driver's side, which seems to indicate a broken/burnt wire in the heating element, which seems to be a fairly simple fix, although time-consuming. The passenger seat appears to work just fine, as it heats up very quickly on a cold morning; it does, however, have a noisy front up/down motor that does not move the front up & down when I try to use it. The rear motor works, and the seat moves forward/reverse under motor power, so any advice on that would be helpful (I haven't searched the forum for the motor problem yet).
Out of curiosity, has anyone tried this replacement heating element set to wire in to the OEM harness connectors? It seems like it might work pretty well as a long-term solution for an OEM heater that has flexed too much to be repaired or as an add-on for an XJ that doesn't have seat heaters already installed. |

For what's it's worth, on my '99 Cherokee Limited, the driver's side seat heater quit working a couple of years ago. The light would come on, on both high & low settings, but no heat. I was told by a local dealer that they couldn't get the replacement element anymore. So... I went to a local auto upholstery shop and they installed a great seat heater for $150. They said they were unable to use the console switch, so they very discreetly mounted a switch on the lower front of the seat. It has both a high & low setting, works perfectly and the interior looks stock. Well worth the money.
