Heated seat conversion

So i'm in the preliminary stages of looking into installing heated seats to my '99 XJ Limited. I do not have them installed as a factory option, but rather am looking to add them. We're considering moving back to the North East in a few years, and it would please the woman no end to have them added...

Anyway, has anybody done this? I have no idea what i might need, or if i'm already pre-wired for them or not. Obviously i'd need new seats, and the control unit that drops into the ashtray slot, but beyond that i have no idea.

I did find this thread for repairing a system that's in place, but it's of limited use:

So, anybody blazed this trail, or am i on my own?

I have seen an aftermarket, device for that it was a kit, you had to remove the seat cover from the bottom seat and install the heating element, and there was a control device and, and a set of switches, I think it was on the DIY channel, that guy that does car repair, Bruce Bonebreak, I think his name is.

Look up the show and see if they have any links to the kit...

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find anything in the DIY site in his episode listing for heated seats, but i'll keep looking.

As for aftermarket, that's definitely a possibility, but i'd really love to do an OEM setup right now.

I bought these for my 01XJ when I had leather installed... I've been using them over 2 winters without issue. I recently bought another set for my 00WJ, but never got around to getting them installed.

They work great. The kit comes equipped with oem-style switches, and it's only $125 for 2 with free shipping. It looks like that merchant isn't selling any at the moment, but I'm sure they will post some new listings soon.
