Hm. As I understand it, the casting numbers are four-digits for the purposes of cylinder head ID. The ones I can recall offhand:

2685 - 1975-1990 258ci
2686 - 1987-1990 242ci
7120 - 1991-1995 242ci
0630 - 1996-2000 242ci
0331 - 1999-2008 242ci

Hang on a second...

I'm back. Yep, thought so! The casting number you want for head ID is above the centre two exhaust ports, outside the valve cover rail. It should be four digits - if it doesn't match one of the five above, you have an earlier head that could be for the 199, 232, or 258 (and I'd have to look that one up.)

4.2l

I have this same casting number on my head it is a 1983 4.2L. I just spent $70 bucks to find out mine has a crack in it and I am looking for a rebuild.
