Harbor Freight Light Question...

I've been thinking about adding some backup lights to the roof rack of the xj. but if i stick with the hella 500 theme that i've got, that'd be another $70 or so. so instead, i was gonna go with some of those handy dandy HF lights that everyone's running. my question is this, do they have them in different patters? like a fog light version and a driving/pencil beam pattern?

i remember seeing very similar lights at a tractor supply store and they had the two different types. i'd go back to that store, but it's back where my family lives.. but i wanted to check w/ yall before i drove 20-30 minutes out of my way to find out.

thanks in advance

steve

I just flipped through a harbor frieght catalog, all I see are rectangular amber fogs. Have you looked at local part stores/walmart. The ones down here all carry some kind of fog/driving lights for pretty cheap. Plus you could go with some smaller ones cause you dont need as much light back there.

These are the same as the fogs but driving version. Sorry, it is all I could find. I searched all over their site.

Actually for backup lights you'd be better off with something with a flood beam instead of a fog/driving beam. Something like this from Northern Tool

i could have sworn i saw these lights in a agricultural store about a week after i bought my hella 500's. and they had both fog and driving lights. i'd go back to that store, but they're like 370 miles away.

i guess i'll just drive out th HF and see for myself.

I know about those, they also have some 5" US General lights. I was just looking for fogs, sorry about that. Have you looked on ebay?

I use to use 30 watt utility lights from Pep Boys. They worked great mounted to the back of my rack and they were round. They were like $15 for the two, but the came with no wiring (not like thats a big deal).

reading this about backup lights made me think of my old backup light mod.
i put them under the bumper, didn't drill any holes. used 2x4 scrap to make spacer/brackets for the lights to go into. i used a pair of those really cheap walmart fogs, i think they were like 17$.
i've never been rockcrawling, i like to play in the mud, so smashing them was never an issue for me. i took them off when i put on my hitch. anyway, here is what i did:
i got through inspection twice with this mod. i had them hooked upto the same circuit as the factory reverse lights with no problems.
my mom's neighbor has a hella utility light ontop of his surco rack. i checked on that and they have them for 10$ each on some website, i'm still trying to find a link to share.
