it happened again, just worse
so my jeep on ocassion would randomly die while driving..just everything would shut off, i'd put it in neutral start it back up and drive away. today it did that once so i started it up and kept going but 200 yards later it happened again and wouldnt start back up. if i sprayed starter fluid in the intake it would sputter then shut off again so i figured i was out of gas, got a can and put 4 gallons in and sitll wouldnt fire, i checked the pulgs and they were dry, i got a ride home and its getting towed here but does anyone know wtf is going on?
should i check the fuel pressure? when i pushed on that little valve it kinda sprayed a little the after a second it started to bubble out ( thats with the ignition on)

Sorry no pics but, It's located on the drivers side top of the bell housing. If you look under your brake booster you should see a wire going to the top of the bell housing. Its easy to replace, just 2 bolts and 1 wire. The best way for me to replace it was laying down under the drivers side with a ratchet and a LONG extension with a swivel/wobble socket on the end. Just be careful not to drop the bolts inside the bell housing.

when you check the fuel pressure, you turn the key on and wait untill you hear the fuel pump shut off to push that pressure valve in, and when you check the pressure it should spray atleast to the air filter box (atleast mine does) i would say is probably a bad fuel pump or clogged filter since you said the plugs were dry (Dry= no fuel in combustion chamber)

i was thinking more of that way too since a cps is 60$ im gonna go check the fuel pump relay and check the fuel pressure

FWIW
I had a mystery shut down issue like that last winter. It went on for two days and I couldn't figure anything out so i took it to the shop. They kept it for two days and couldn't find a thing. I put a new battery in and it's never happened again. The battery that was in was reading 12 but was probably about 3 yrs old and showing no other signs of age. Everything else was fine including cold starts. |

It cranks and cranks, yet when you add starter fluid it sputters......this is a fuel issue not a spark issue.
Check the fuel pressure at the rail with a mechanical gauge using the schrader valve. Then turn the key on, dont start the truck, and the pressure should be at least 31psi. I had a similar problem, and found out I only had 5psi, even though fuel shoots out of the schrader valve So check it with a mechanical gauge, just dont rely on spraying fuel being adequate enough... Good Luck. |
