Raleigh??? Where is the JY you go to? I'm down near Ft. Bragg and need to find a U-Pull. The only one I know of is that LKQ around Clayton. The only reason I know of that one is because that's right around where I bought the HEEP. All the places I call around here won't tell me where one is at and want way too much for parts that they pull. The bastards

Well, i live up the road in Alamance Co. (I'm here now on break) I don't think I've ever gone to any JYs from Raleigh because when I search the only U pulls that come up are in smithfield. There are a BUNCH over near Mebane on hwy 70. That one JY I frequent, Crutchfield is an all cash place where I found 3 D44s, and they currently have like 4 97+ XJs. They used to have like 20 of the older XJs but they got rid of a lot of their inventory. There are still ~12 left though if you need the older parts.
King Auto Parts (literally almost beside them) they have a bunch of parts cheaper than everybody else, but they treated me like dog poo because I wanted to look around their yard. They have plenty of XJs too, but you have to know what part you're looking for.
I don't really know of any JYs in eastern NC that are any good. There was actually one near Fayetteville that had some 97+ leather seats I was going to get a while back, but I can't remember where.

How are you searching for the U-Pulls? I wouldn't mind going to Smithfield or Mebane to pull some parts.
I wish you could remember the place near Fayetteville though. How did you find it? On CL or what?

Figured I'd let yall know what is in the works. You can thank NCSU for taking all my Jeep money haha.
Several things need to be fixed on the Jeep. Here's an overview:
-Passenger side door sill is leaking like a pregnant dog...needs replacing
-Manifold (exhaust) is cracked and needs replacing\
-Rear springs have been bent to heck for a while now
-ES3000 ProCrap shocks are about to rattle all my teeth out...need replacing
-I have a pretty looking D44 sitting in my basement begging to be hooked up
-I have a pair of LeBarons waiting to be installed.
-My roof rack is off and needs to be put back on.
-Winch needs to be reassembled
-Battery ground needs replacing.
-Head gasket is leaking'
-something is squealing BAD up front...idk what it is
-finish wiring of top fogs.
-PAINT RESTO!!!
That's a long list...and doesn't leave a lot of room for getting that 4.5 RC LA kit either. O well.
Good news is that stevieboy is selling me his 3" RC springs and maybe his shocks too. Yesterday, went to the JY and finally got an ashtray!
I have some questions i need answered...i'll post em later but thought I'd give an update.

Just search "used auto parts" in X city. There are several on Poole Rd in Raleigh/Smithfield. There should be several around fayetteville. What do you need because crutchfield will definitely have it. I can go look for you and save a trip.

I have an iPhone video of it. Its like an intermittent squeak/squeal that is especially bad when first starting it up. It sounds like it's coming from the alt/AC condenser area I think...i could get the video up later

D44 Noob
Okay guys...I have some tech questions that I hope some of the "experts" can answer.
1) I have explained this earlier, but I am a differential NOOB I really want to get my D44 on the XJ before the thought of selling it convinces me otherwise.
The thing is axleshaft-less right now but the carrier is still bolted in. I haven't touched it. I sprayed it down with brake cleaner to clean all the cruddy old diff fluid out of it. You ought to see how clean this sucker is now! All the gears look "good" especially for coming out of a XJ that had 238,000 miles. The spider gears look ok and everything seems to move with ease even without fluid lubrication.
My QUESTION is this: How can I tell if the carrier bearings are ok? If I need to replace em, better to do it now while it is more accessible. Is there a way to check them?
Also, how difficult will it be to replace all the bearings and seals on my axleshafts? One of them is so worn out it can be pushed apart by hand...pretty gay if you ask me haha
2)When welding on my raised shock mounts, should I make the single shear bolt parallel to the leaf perch or should I angle it a tad due to having shims in the future?
3) My exhaust manifold needs replacing and I obviously am looking at APN as the replacement due to its popularity here and abroad. Apparently though, there are some issues people have had with 1999 model XJs?????? Mine was manufactured in April 1999, so it wasn't a late model or anything. Will I run into problems?
4) What causes intermittent squealing/squeaking on the engine? I have a video on my iPhone but I think it was coming from the passenger side of the engine. Possible AC clutch/alternator issues?
Thanks guys

I need a few small things. I really just wanted to go looking around for myself, but I REALLY want to replace the master window/door switches and wiring, because I TOTALLY jacked that up I went from having issues with the driver's window to ALL of them. WAY TO GO MATT
I still need a headliner, carpet if I could find it, visors, OHC (small one I could use with my sunroof), and any other parts that I could upgrade from a newer XJ

Well, the window stuff is prob there, headliners are iffy, most of the ones I have seen were stapled up by their POs. Carpet would def be there, OHC is a wash, I've seen places for em on the older ones but they are gone. There is a 99 OHC that I planned on buying but due to a complicated nature of its removal I decided it wasn't worth it. There is a nice 98 XJ that was involved in a mere fender bender that would be a great pick. This is all at Crutchfield for reference. The dude beside him has a late model 96 that was pretty decent when I saw it earlier in the week.

Well, the two main things right now are the switches and headliner. I don't even NEED the headliner material. If I can get the piece that the headliner is attached to I can manage it from there with SOMETHING The carpet I can wait on or go another route (floor liners or just raptor). Oh, and I'm also looking for leather seats... any luck there?

There are actually some nice leather seats, or there used to be, for pre 97s. There are some REALLY nice ones out of the 87 Wagoneer ltd that I pulled a D44 out of. I would have to check on some of em, cause you know how they get rained on and ruined

DUUUUUUUDE!!! If you're going there and can snag them for me I can meet up with you and I'll hook you up with whatever you need for your troubles. I REALLY want black, but dark grey would be just as cool. I just don't want tan.
So, I'm guessing that's a no for running to the JY for me

Now that you've had it in for a while, how do you feel about the Peel and Seal? Is your Jeep quieter? Do your doors 'feel' better?

Well, I think its quieter...If I could get some decent shocks and LAs, I think that my jeep would ride very nice and quiet. As far as doors, I don't really understand what you mean...heavier? Yes.

It was $200 which some would consider high...that is cheap around here in NC. I know out in CO and NV you can get axles for $50-75 and that JYs have 50% off days but around here, most JYs want $300-$400 for a Dana 35
|
You need to ride by the Pull a Part here in Winston. I pulled a D44 there in Nov and it was $99 and some change out the door. I go by there every week, PM me when you're looking for something.
