Well I'm 99.99% sure that this is my problem!
If I cannot get to it for another 2 weeks will I be ok? It only just started to make the noise. |

I did this just now in my driveway and it took me 1 hour. Im no mechanic either. It helped for one of you guys to tell me it is an 8 mm bolt also. One thing that is most important.....don't forget to chock the wheels! I also used anti-seeze and I think it will be just fine. I also used the old clamps for the boot, by pulling on it with some pliers.
Thanks guys this forum is a great tool and has came to use lots of times I love it..good work!!! |

I just stumbled upon this thread and it appears to match the exact problem with my wife's 2001 XJ Limited 4x4.
Only problem is that I can't see the pictures... only the dreaded little red X's. Can somebody please re-post them? I'm going to try to tackle this job this coming weekend. Thanks in advance. More later... Z. |

Never mind...
I think it's a firewall issue. I'll try it from home and it should be good to go. Thanks anyway. More later... Z. |

I just spent two hours crawling around under my Wrangler, looking for something...ANYTHING that could be causing the clunking sound. It has now gotten to the point where I am actually feeling it through the clutch pedal and the shifter.
I pray this is the cause of my clunking! I will be doing this fix in a day, or so...I'll let you all know if it does the trick. I knew this forum was the place to come for the answer. This place is awesome! |

Well, I did the grease thing just now and it didn't do the trick.
Could the front shaft cause a noise/vibration even when in 2WD? The noise and the vibration, which is almost like a shuttering feeling, are only noticible when starting from a complete stop in 1st gear, and sometimes in 2nd (6spd transmission). Any help is greatly appreciated! |

Does anybody or cricketo have a copy of the images they could host? this thread is extremely valuable but it seems much less valuable without the pictures
I always refer people over to this thread so if we can get the pics back I'm sure there will be many happy Jeepers

pics are still there, copy the image URL and paste it in another window, it will load as long as the request isn't a referral
pics aren't that important though, the write-up basically just says to remove the driveshaft, clean the grease off and liberally apply anti-sieze compound, then reassemble |

Sorry about the pics it has been forever since I have even been on this site. It seems my account became inactive. I think it is fixed now, the pics work for me now anyways. How can I go about making this a sticky? I get a lot of feedback from this post and I think it should go in the FAQ.
