No problem with anti seize handleing the heat, it's the friction that concerns me that's why I went with the Molylube.

I used the valvoline molylube and it lasted two weeks.

So I tried antiseeze and it has been holding up much better.

Can this be done easily without power tools and what is the verdict on what kind of grease to use? Is anyone for sure that the driveshaft is not balanced from the factory and are there only four bolts that hold the driveshaft in place?

hand tools, just need a big hammer and maybe a heavy friend.

just mark the ds with chalk when you pull it to be safe. and yes just 4 bolts but the u joint might want to stay put so that where a hammer and pb blaster come in

Thanks to the original poster the fix worked great and was very easy. You only need hand tools and the driveshaft is light. Here are some tips to make it go smoothly.

1. Use the anti seize which was originally recommended.
2. Spray "Blaster - Penetrating Catalyst" (Autozone) on the four bolts and u joint the night before.
3. Respray bolts and u joint before you start.
4. Only remove one clamp (2nd) by sliding a flat screwdriver between the connector and clamp and twist.
4. Once the four bolts are removed, lightly tap with hammer both u joints and spray another shot of Blaster on the u-joint again.
5. Slide driveshaft toward engine and it should come right off with no muscle at all.

This literally took no more than 1 hour taking my time. Once again great fix!

The yoke straps are 8 mm bolts.

I use anti seize all the time on my heep. I have found that if you cut it with about half wheel bearing grease, it won't dry out as easily.

My dad tried using never seize, which is a similar product as the anti sieze, just for industrial applications, in a A/C fan bearing and it only lasted for a few days. All the grease mixed with the powerdered nickel dries up under high heat conditions.

just did it with valvoline heavy duty wheel bearing grease and WOW. Thanks OP that was a useful tutorial. Anybody else other than me entertained by the "PLOOOP" when you pull the driveshaft out of the rubber boot? hahahahah

I work for a fertilizer company and we use silver grade anti sieze all the time. We have been told by a few people not to use it on moving parts like splines and such because it will cause wear. The stuff we use has little bits of metal in it apparently, so be careful what you stick in there.

i have this exact issue with my 98 i just bought. one question, it doesn't really bother me, and i'm kind of a wuss about taking crap apart (i'm a computer tech, not an auto tech). Am i going to ruin anything if i just leave it? If i wanted to pay a shop to do this, would i just ask them to grease the slip yoke?

Thanks for your responses.
