Shouldn't be a huge deal but it is possible that it could cause vibrations.

Just universal ones. You could use the old ones but I tore mine up taking it off. I got them at autozone but I believe they have them at advance also and probably any parts store for that matter
Here a link from advance:

All the tools needed are a pair of pliers pretty much, maybe a screwdriver.

My '97 FSM says 14 ft-lbs. I know mine were a bit tighter than that. Just be careful not to snap them. Also some locktite wouldn't hurt either cuz that would suck if they came loose. I also reused my old straps and bolts. Probably not suppossed to, but mine were in good shape.

not a big deal....actually not a deal at all. driveshafts are not balanced on the vehicle in the first place....it makes no difference how it is mounted back up

Thanks!
Thanks for this writeup! I just purchased my first jeep last week which is a 1998 XJ and I was going a little gray over the weird movement at starts and stops. I am going to give this a try tomorrow.

Finished the job about a hour ago and it did the trick. I went slow though the steps and it took me about an hour. What a great write-up!!!

When you zip tie or clamp the boot back onto the driveshaft, is there a certain position the boot should be in? Meaning, should it be scrunched up a little, or just let it go how it wants and then zip tie it/clamp it?
Or doesn't it matter?

LOL I remember this thread. I tried using spray lithium grease, and it did not help much. Make sure you use the the right lube for the task.

just so nobody over-tightens them, the bolts on the straps need to be tightened to 14 ft. Ibs.

So what is the right grease for this? Can you use the same stuff that goes in the steering zerks?
