Grade 5 Bolts
Are grade 5 bolts strong enough for the leaf springs and lower control arms. I can't find grade 8 bolts that will work anywhere.

Have you looked at a AutoZone or Pep Boys? They both have Grade 8 bolts. Hardware stores should too.

the size I need is 9/16, the only place that has them is fastenal but they have to special order them. The hardware store has grade 5 in the size i need. Everywhere I gol tells me its an odball size. Wanted to install my lift this weekend and waited till the last minute to get new bolts.

go to machine shop, look in yellow pages.
Grade 5 bolts are very good, don't know about grade 8 bolts. rule of thumb: grade 5 will bend before breaking grade 8 is very tough, but brittle, and won't bend as much before breaking. but much stronger.

X2 don't chance it. As Bruno said, grade 5 wiil stretch more as opposed to grade 8. On the leaf springs that could spell disaster.

Use Grade 8 with a National Fine (NF) thread. You could use National Coarse (NC) but it is easier to set the torque with fine thread bolts.

All leaf spring bolts, as well as LCA and UCA bolts, and track bar bolts are METRIC. 9/16" is very close to that (slightly larger in diameter), but the thread pitch is totally different. So unless you want to ruin the weldnuts inside the unibody frame rail, get metric bolts. 14mm x 110mm and 2mm thread pitch is the correct size for LCA and leaf spring bolts. Class 10.9 is the metric equivalent of grade 8. edit: and get those class 10.9 or grade 8 bolts. I used class 8.8 bolts (around the same as grade 6) on mine for a while, can't say they took the beating too well. I've actually bent a class 8.8, 10mm bolt on my downhill bike which attached the rear shock to the frame... those lower class/ grade bolts are not meant for something like that. Those stronger bolts are there for a reason.
