Hey guys quick question:
A friend of mine is selling her 1998 Cherokee 4.0 6cyl. It has 112,000 on it and interior and exterior is in great shape. It was involved in an accident in 2005 rearended and pushed into another car oup front. She said it was not in bad shape and only needed body damage. It has no AC, and has not for 3 years, (how expensive is this to fix?>) she is asking $2,000.
I have a company car and a 95 YJ for weekends, but it sounds like a good deal and I dont want to pass it up? What do you think.
Is it like all jeeps where you can get over 200K on the engine?
i wouldnt pay that much for a jeep with 112k on it. the fact that it has been in an accident would make me want to walk away. with the uniframe on the XJ theres no telling what kind of damage has been done underneath that jeep. i would talk her down because of the reasons that i have listed.
Sorry I should have been more clear...the damage was fixed imediately after the accident so there is no visible exterior damage. Interior looks really clean.
I am going to drive it this weekend and run it for a while.
ah now it makes a bit more sence to me. if the damage was repaired properly then yes it maybe worth it. i would take it to a mechanic that you trust to make sure the frame is strait, if it is infact strait and it meets your standards then go for it.
Test drive it. If you want it, buy it. For $2000 you can drive it for a while and sell it later if you don't want it anymore. Really, are 1998 cherokees in good shape ever going to sell for less than maybe $1000 or $1500? For that little exposure to depreciation, unless you're pinching every penny, buy it if you want it.
She's a friend of yours so I wouldn't bust her balls on the price. She's driven it since the accident with no problems and she's being honest about it. To me $2000 is a GREAT PRICE if you like it. No price is good enough if you don't. Go write the check and be happy.
