Getting Warm

Of all things my jeep is getting warm. Who knows if its normal and I am just being paranoid.

Either way I replaced my waterpump, alternator, radiator, tstat, hoses and all that last wheeling season because I killed them all with mud and the radiator with a stick hidden in the mud.

This winter I had no issues with temp, normal running temp was on the 1/4 mark and thats as warm as it got even through the negative temps. Anyway last week I was stuck in traffic when it was about 15* outside and my temp slowly krept to 210 (i know its normal temp but yeah it was below freezing). Well today is a blistering hot 57* outside and I am sitting in the Arbys drive through and I hear my electric fan kick on. I was about 1/4" over the 210 mark. Even after my coolant system swap last season my electric fan stays on a whole wheeling trip and never goes under 210 ever. What else could be causing my XJ to be getting warm.

Oh, I swapped because I overheated as well and someone said I could have cracked a head gasket but I thought that would cause coolant to leak into the oil?

It maybe just the clutch fan dying, if you poped a head gasket you would be useing water, it would be going in a cyl. and getting in the oil., or burning in the exhaust, as a white dense smoke..

or the stat could just be sticking, try a different stat, and check the clutch fan.

No matter what I did to my 94 4.0 it always sat right at 210. Nothing more or less. Driving down the highway etc. Sitting at idle (besides the time my tstat went and I overheated) it stays at 210 and the electric fan was almost always on.

Stock replacement tstat at 195* is what you should use. get the better of the two or three that whereever you go offers.

Well when it is 10* here my temp never gets above the 1/4 line. Summer when I am on the highway it is right below the 2 on the 210. When I wheel the temp is always to the right of the 0 on the 210. It gets to the line before the red then the fan kicks on drops it back to the 0.

I think I am just being paranoid. But when I wheel just always worry about overheating and when my electric fan never turns off because its warm I just get over it.

something I have also learned here on the forum is, never trust your gauges. They have a history of being off a little here and there.

You replace your temp sensors while you were in there by chance? After that next thing I'd recommend is a block flush. In the end I nailed my issues down to some blockage in the water jackets. I replaced EVERYTHING but in the end I ran the redneck block flush (vinegar for 1 week then baking soda mixed with distilled water the 2nd week). What came out looked nasty and after that my overheating issues went away.

Now my coolant system is a little too efficient year round. It sits just above the 1/4 mark and the only way I have ever gotten it to 210 is by driving from Dillon up to the Eisenhower tunnel in 3rd at 60MPH. Drops back down to 1/4 though before I'm through the tunnel.

I wish my XJ would get warm! I put a new 3 row CSF radiator in, have 3/4 of it covered with cardboard and it still takes forever before I have heat.

Yeah in the summer I can run up monument hill on the way down to springs and it gets over the 210 but if I am cruising flat I will be a hair under or a hair over the 210 depending on heat outside.

So when you do a flush like that, do you actually drive around a week with vinegar in there?? then baking soda and water?? And that is one thing I forgot, a temp sender.
