How long and how much would you estimate it would take to swap my stock 3.55's in a '99 XJ for 3.73's (front and rear diff)?

I'd be willing to guess he means both. Setting gears is something that should only be done by someone who knows exactly what they are doing. Typically that'll cost you about $300-$400 in labor alone per axle. So for the gains you get going from 3.55-3.73 it just isn't worth it. You'll get a little more low end power but that's about it.
