Gauge test

I know this sounds stupid but if the gauge cluster isn't working, I do the test, will it troubleshoot itself and possibly fix it or will it just end with a crap cluster

What vehicle are you inquiring about??
The short answer would be NO. No instrument cluster can repair itself, and running whatever "test" you refer to shouldn't damage it...
