fuel pump isues

ok well my fuell pump aint kicking on....... i was just driveing had alitle over a quarter of a tank, and bam just SHUTS OFF the jeep just dies. wtf get it towed home. the jeep will start if i put gas in the throtle body.

i get under the jeep no noise at all comeing from the fuel pump. no gas in the fuel rail, so i unplug the fuel pump with the plug thats right by the fuel pump. i take a tester to see if the fuel pump is even geting power, NOTHING AT ALL theres no power going threw the wire at all, well theres 3 of them a ALL black wire, a red with a white stripe and a light brown wire. tested all three nothing no power, where does them wires leed up to? and what could make it not have power? keep in mind fuel pump is only 7 months old just had it replaced.

thanks

Check your ballast resistor on the inside driver's fender. Had one go bad the other day. I still had a little voltage going to the pump, however, but not much. I would still try that first. Can't remember where it gets its power from, I want to say the starter relay, but I'm just going from memory, and I don't have my manual at work.

The ballast resistor is the white ceramic thing, with 2 wires on it, on the front drivers side inner fender under the hood. Start by seeing if you have power on each side of it. If you don't have power there, you'll have to get a wiring diagrahm. You could also check the fuel pump relay, it's the 2nd from the front under the relay cover. Should be 4 of them in line with each other.

I was going to say the relay. I just replaced my pump about a month ago and it started acting funny. I just swaped the pump relay with the a/c (the same) and started like a champ, but the a/c wouldn't kick on. I just poped off the case on the relay and cleaned the conection with contact cleaner. Now they both work fine.

well i kinda led the wire back all the way up to the relays theres only 3 in a row and theres one thats attached to wires hanging kinda close.

i put other relay fues type looking things in all of them and still nothing. couse any thing els be the problem? every thing els works fine turns over but no start will start when i put gas in the TB but wont stay runing for long.

i looked under the dash tried switching all them relays out NOTHING. this is gay.

i was driveing to just pick up my friend, turn around in a drive way and and start driveing off and just SHUTS OFF. the fuel pump is only 8 months old, theres a pink with a white stripe wire, and a light brown wire and a black one, the pink one leeds all the way up by the relays right up to this litle box type looking thing where the alternater power wire attaches to.

how do you unbolt a fuel pump?
