front tires shimmy only around 60mph ???

when i reach 60 to 65 miles per hour the front tires start to shimmy...more so on the right side of the vehicle. I've jack both sides up and moved tire with my hands to see if i could feel any movement. i felt no play what so ever. I did notice where my sterring box is, there was so leaking that had occured from the lines where connected. Thought this could be from the shaking going on. The shaking has been going on for about 1 year now. replaced stabilizer and 2 of the 4 control arm bushings. Does anyone know what else this could be?

Sounds like a tire balancing or alignment issue.

I'd agree - probably an allignment issue. Sounds like a problem I experienced with a van. Good luck!

Check your tires for cupping. This will cause a shimmy.

TIRE BALANCE is a VERY GOOD BET here.

I have a slight shimmy around 55-60 as well and I am guessing it is my tires since I had nearly all my shimmies fixed yesterday.

Turns out my rotors were warmed to hell and my steering stabilizer wasn't doing anything since it had leaked so bad. lol With new stuff my Jeep feels great! All I need to do is rebalance the tires (and maybe get an alignment) and I think my Jeep will be 100% smooth (right now it's about 90%, before yesterday it felt like 0% lol)

Good luck.

My jeep use to do that and it was the Tracbar. The mechanic could move it with his hand. So try jacking the front up by the frame and see if you can get it to move. If not then i guess that would rule the tracbar out.

Got the wheels aligned and it seems the shimmy got worse. Seems as if now that the tires are not pulling one way, but rather straight now, it has allowed what ever is causing the shimmy to have more play now. i jacked up by the frame and shook the hell out of everything and cant find anything loose. a couple of the bushings under there have some minor cracks but nothing that seems worn enough to cause shimmying at 55+. or is this a common misconception of cracked bushings

Cracked bushings are ok. A Speed dependent "shimmy" (only at a certain speed) is 9 out of 10 times a tire out of balance, it's called Harmonic Occilation. An alignment may help or make it worse.

You said it's been goin on a YEAR? Chances are you just had a tire out of balance and driving it like that for a year wore the tire goofy......so now it sounds like you need new tires.

Have you had the tires balanced? Rotated? A lot of time you can rotate a wobbly tire to the rear and get more miles out of the set since it won't alter your steering.

I was looking under my jeep and noticed the lower control arm looked a little smashed, like it had been hyper turned. If the lower control arm doesnt look like the other one, could this cause a shimmy? It appears the bushings on the lower arm are good. I dont know if the little smash it has could cause this. What do you all think?

As mentioned, did you swap front tires to back? If you have a tire or wheel problem, this is one of the simplest things you can do to try to isolate it.
