Front End Noise

*I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee with 34000 miles on it. The car has been sitting on a pound for about 8 years long. I've changed a bunch of stuff on it to make it run. The problem I'm experiencing now is a constant low pitch noise from the front. It gets a little more noticeable from 25mph and up. It does not change in pitch on throttle off.

I took it to a mechanic and of course I think I got stiffed. They told me the pinion and side bearings where probably the cause. I ended up believing them and at a cost of $500 they replaced them. The sound is still there. I've done some research and there are allot of different opinions. Some say the hub bearings may be the cause and some say the u-joints. At this point I do not trust anyone unless their a pro. Hope someone can help. Thanks .

We need just a bit more information, does the pitch (note) change with speed? Is it constant regardless of speed? Does it vary with engine RPM or wheel RPM? There is a disconnect since you're not driving one gear ratio at all times from engine to wheels.

Also, my jeep pops, clicks, vibrates, etc. I dont notice it. You know why? It's not a BMW or Mercedes, it's a truck :-)

Remove the front DS and see if it changes. Put it up on jacks, very solid, remove wheels, and see if you can find it that way.

The pitch is almost like low humming sound and does not change with speed or engine and wheel RPM it's constant. I know what you mean about it being a truck. I have had a few, but this is just annoying.

Can you give me a pointers?

If the sound is still there with out the front drive shaft : what might the cause be?

if the sound disappears after removing it: what is the cause then?
