front bumper, custom questions

i have been gathering information on building a custom bumper. i am taking a welding class at the local votech school and we get to make our own project Im thinking of making a custom bumper i have the basic layout done and the measurements of the mounts and overall length, what i dont have is the mount hole measurements.

i found this link in my search
http://www.twisted-halo.com/digicam/...er%20mount.pdf
but i have know idea what scale it is drawn to, im not a cad student

so if anyone can help me out with the scale of this diagram and any tips for making this project or any improvements that i wont find by searching? also with it being on the sub-frame how safe is to be used as a front tow point if i get stuck?

thanks for any help

All the measurements are there, that is the drawing you need. Here's a link to another site...

Some say the measurement are off, and some say they are just fine. Make a paper or cardboard template and check the hole spacing for yourself. The scale is in inches.

I did the same thing in my welding school! haha Ask to see if they have a CNC table to cut the pieces out for you. That dropped quite a few hours off. Do u have access to any CAD programs? Also, make sure to ask if the school will allow you to weld, or attach, anything to your vehicle on school grounds. I found out after I built the whole thing in school that I had to install it at home because they don't allow vehicles to be worked on within school grounds. And they wouldn't allow me to drive me XJ into the shop to build off of the vehicle lol. So I had to build it purely off measurements lol

Good luck though and the teacher will be stoked when it turns out good!! I would definitely recommend stitch welds throughout the whole build, until it's fully built and tested, then do your full welds!

Do you know what material you are going to use?

Oh and I might have my AutoCAD drawings/dimensions of the mounts, and bumper if u want! You can also see them I'm my build thread if I remember correctly lol

Lol ok, I will look thru my files and try to find them! I would still print off a to-scale print just in case though! And the AutoCAD files I created are .dwg files, then I converted them to .dxf files for the CNC program. But I will check and let u know either way! The drawing also includes the little tab that you'll have to bend to curve under our "frame rails".

Ask your instructor if you can use some of the scrap 3/16" and 1/4". That's what I did We had scrap steel come in different lengths and widths but I was able to find enough large ones that I could cut the pieces out. When/If I build another bumper like mine, I was thinking about using some rectangle tubing as the top plate, if that makes sense without drawing it lol
