Follow up to oil spraying under hood
I recently posted a thread about oil spraying under my hood.
Turns out that it wasn't oil at all but fuel leaking out one or two of the injectors. I cleaned everything up and started it up to see exactly where it was coming from. In less than 10 seconds it had pumped out enough fuel from this one injector to soak a paper towel. Please tell me this isn't going to cost a fortune. Is there a simple fix or is this something that needs to be taken to the mechanic and let them rip everything apart??

Well I played with it a little and now it's barely leaking at all. Maybe it's an seal or an "O" ring or something? How hard of a job would that be as well as cost for the parts?

Not real hard, but slightly time consuming. Unbolt the fuel rail mounts and gently work the rail and injectos out. There should be some retaining clips at the top of the injectors. Take these off one at a time as you replace the O rings on the injector. Put it back and start on the others. Be careful to keep the injector holes clean by covering them with a clean rag while messing with the injectors.
For projects like this, a Haynes or Chiltons is helpful (at least the Haynes has the install anyway). You can get a new O ring set form the dealer or you can try places like AutoZone, or Napa.

I purchased a new set of 6 injectors on eBay, at a very good price.
If you want to do it yourself, just be careful and not pinch the O rings while replacing the fuel rail over the 6 injectors. You will have a fuel leak and a ruined O ring. The O rings are sold as a set and you don't get any extras.......... Jim ![]()

I just put injectors on my wifes neon (25lb vipers) and it was
so easy I ordered a set for my zj .. Make sure you don't get the pigtails mixed up. Put tape on all the wires and hoses and label them. It is very easy..
