Flat/ Tube Fenders

Just got my 33's mounted up and after some mudding i realized how little fender coverage i have and it not that my rig gets coated so much as the po-po. my buddy is taking metal fab and wants to work on some steel fenders that tie into my bumper and rock rails. i have seen it done a few times but i can't search and didnt have mush luck on NAXJA. anything anyone has on this topic would be much appreciated. here is a pic of my current setup from the side. its a jcr stage 3 bumper and custom rails that have quite a bit to work with. it would be cool to tie into the hoop on the bumper and tie in some brush guard action

Best way to do it in my humble opinion is to simple DOM to your from bump and then cut out sheets and weld them to the DOM. I have done several tube fenders this way on Mustangs, XJs, and YJs.

Good lord you need to trim more. You barely have taken any metal off. You are going to smash those fenders to hell if you flex at all.

actually, thats just the plastic inner fender liner, i've trimmed to the bottom of the washer bottle, the liner is just sagging a little from all the mud i have yet to rub on metal but i haven't flexed out the back yet and i haven't maxxed out but so far just mudding around and light trail riding its been great. i've onl;y had them on for a day so hopefully this weekend ill get a chance to disco and see where i'm at. some bumpstopping is obviously in the near future.
back to the flat fenders...

If I can still see where the stock flares mount, you didn't trim enough.

like i said, those mounting holes are just the plastic liner... the metal is trimmed a few inches higher
here are some clean pics back when i was at 3"s and 31's:

it may look like the rear is rubbing but it's not.

anyways, when i really get a chance to flex it out sometime next week, i'll probably end up doing some more trimming but the original reason for this thread was to see what i could come up with for info/ pics on tube fenders. i appreciate that link and i remember seeing your xj a while when you first started that project, i love the work you did with the grill
thanks guys
